So here's a rant on a different subject!

Just tried to add an audio file to my blog. Ripped it from the CD, converted it to MP3 file -- and lo and behold, no facility to upload MP3 files in Wordpress!!

If you've got it uploaded somewhere else on the web, you can link to it, but not if it's 'only' actually in front of you on your own computer! Welcome to crazy looking-glass land.

The Wordpress FAQ pages don't make it clear that you have to ADD SPACE, i.e. pay them lots of $$$ for extra memory and the 'privilege' of being able to add anything other than picures to your blog. HAH! I CAN add a YouTube video if I want, but there just doesn't happen to be a YouTube of anyone singing Butterworth's 'The Lads in their Hundreds' -- surprise surprise. I did find one of George Butterworth doing a jig in 1912 but it really wasn't appropriate.

Annoyed now, as it this has spoiled what was meant to be a rather special blog post for today.

Roll on MySpace, is all I can say. Maybe that's what I'll do this afternoon if it rains. xx :-(

Aaaaauuurrrggghhh!
(That's a good Charlie Brown scream.)
Just been trying to put photos of cars in my latest bog post and it's driving me MAD!
I've managed three of them in two hours but they're not exactly how or where I would like them even now.
Wordpress has GOT to sort itself out and make it easier for us poor mortals!
xx I promise no more rants on this subject...

Hey again. Won't upload if the picture is too SMALL either, I just discovered.
Worst thing, once you;ve got it uploaded, is to get it in the right PLACE in your post. No matter where you left the pointer, it seems to put it at the top. You can try to drag it about but it just puts itself in some random wrong place.
What I just found was right-click on it (in the Editor pane), click Cut -- it disappears, move mouse pointer to where you want it (ish), click Paste. Aha! But that took half an hour of shouting and swearing.
Ah well, these things are sent to try us )*j*( xx

I haven't tried to put photos on my WordPress blog, except the personalized heading which simply replaced the one in the template. I found it easy to use Slide.com and upload that to my other blog on eBlogger, but haven't tried it with WordPress yet. It probably took me about 24 hours to get my blog the way i liked it and become familiar with its features.

Ought to work if you upload from My Pictures on your hard disk?
Annoying that it only offers 'Thumb' or 'full size' when you send to Editor. You can (once you've got it there at all) manually specify size using the 'Insert or edit picture' button -- although for some reason I then seem to finish up with two versions of the picture, two different sizes. Aargh! Then I go into the 'code' mode and delete one of the strings. It's all such a nightmare that I can't believe Wordpress won't get its act together and invent a simpler system very soon. Aaaaaaaarrrggggghhhhh!!! xx

So that took wayy too long, waaay too many edits, and too much actual thought on my part.

Here's what happend:
I tried to upload the picture to my blog as instructed in the FAQ here at Wordpress. Should have been a simple task. But the picture didn't show up. No thumb, no full image.

I thought it was perhaps because I was sourcing it off of a burned CD, rather than my computer, so I copied it back to my compter and tried again. No dice. all I got was the decorative little white box with the red X.

I know it says "don't upload off the web- it uses other peoples' bandwidth, yadda yadda." But in order to get this pic onto this blog, that is precisely what I had to do. I sourced it from my <a href="http://www.photobucket.com" rel="nofollow">Photobucket</a> account. (MINE. MY picture, MY bandwidth.) I then had to specify height and width in my code, because I didn't want the full-size picture up there.

Too much work. Too much time. The FAQ suggests it's because my image was too big. (has to be under 2000 pixels wide) nope. Mine was originally only 524.

I know I'm missing something simple yet crucial. If you can lend any insight please feel free!! G'Day.

And hey presto, there was a toaster avatar on your comment on my blog... which can only mean one thing. Aha! Magic. So here you are. Welcome to the, er, wonderful world of Wordpress blogging! When you figure out an easy way to put pictures in blogs, perhaps you would let me know...

So glad to have yet another way of keeping in touch with you.

All best -- Jonathan
