Just tried to add an audio file to my blog. Ripped it from the CD, converted it to MP3 file -- and lo and behold, no facility to upload MP3 files in Wordpress!! If you've got it uploaded somewhere else on the web, you can link to it, but not if it's 'only' actually in front of you on your own computer! Welcome to crazy looking-glass land. The Wordpress FAQ pages don't make it clear that you have to ADD SPACE, i.e. pay them lots of $$$ for extra memory and the 'privilege' of being able to add anything other than picures to your blog. HAH! I CAN add a YouTube video if I want, but there just doesn't happen to be a YouTube of anyone singing Butterworth's 'The Lads in their Hundreds' -- surprise surprise. I did find one of George Butterworth doing a jig in 1912 but it really wasn't appropriate. Annoyed now, as it this has spoiled what was meant to be a rather special blog post for today. Roll on MySpace, is all I can say. Maybe that's what I'll do this afternoon if it rains. xx :-( So here’s a rant on a different subject!

If you’ve got it uploaded somewhere else on the web, you can link to it, but not if it’s ‘only’ actually in front of you on your own computer! Welcome to crazy looking-glass land.

No matter where you left the pointer, it seems to put it at the top. You can try to drag it about but it just puts itself in some random wrong place. What I just found was right-click on it (in the Editor pane), click Cut -- it disappears, move mouse pointer to where you want it (ish), click Paste. Aha! I found it easy to use Slide.com and upload that to my other blog on eBlogger, but haven't tried it with WordPress yet. It probably took me about 24 hours to get my blog the way i liked it and become familiar with its features. Annoying that it only offers 'Thumb' or 'full size' when you send to Editor. You can (once you've got it there at all) manually specify size using the 'Insert or edit picture' button -- although for some reason I then seem to finish up with two versions of the picture, two different sizes. Aargh! Then I go into the 'code' mode and delete one of the strings. It's all such a nightmare that I can't believe Wordpress won't get its act together and invent a simpler system very soon. No dice. all I got was the decorative little white box with the red X. I know it says "don't upload off the web- it uses other peoples' bandwidth, yadda yadda." But in order to get this pic onto this blog, that is precisely what I had to do. I sourced it from my <a href="http://www.photobucket.com" rel="nofollow">Photobucket</a> account. (MINE. MY picture, MY bandwidth.) I then had to specify height and width in my code, because I didn't want the full-size picture up there. Too much work. Too much time.
